Special delivery: Budweiser Clydesdales deliver case of beer to lucky resident – Online Beer Delivery
HARLINGEN — Leandra Ruiz did something she never does.
She filled out an online contest for a once-in-a-lifetime chance to win a home delivery from the King of Beers driven by the iconic Budweiser Clydesdales and carriage drivers.
The 35-year-old Harlingen resident filled out the application about three weeks ago. Then she gave up beer for Lent before she got the news she was the winner of the contest.
And yesterday she waited on her driveway with her children, family and neighbors to see the world famous horses trot down her street and pull up in front of her home.
“I’m excited, but I’m not shocked that I won,” Ruiz said “We have a lot of small kids on this street and I thought it would be neat if we had won it.
“And they came, so I’m glad I signed up,” Ruiz said.
The Budweiser carriage drivers also took Ruiz for a ride around the block.
Many of the neighborhood kids walked with the horses as they passed by the neighborhood. And many families and friends took selfies with the Budweiser Clydesdales while they were parked in front of Ruiz’s home.
Ruiz’s brother Omar Villarreal, 38, said he recalled seeing the Clydesdales for the first time on TV during the Super Bowl games while they watched as a family when they were kids. He said he couldn’t believe it when his sister told him the Bud-weiser Clydesdales were coming over to drop off a case of beer.
“Up until now, I didn’t believe it” Villareal said. “I’m excited for my sister, she deserved it.”
The horses are here for Borderfest and they will be here until Sunday. The public is allowed to visit the horses at the corpo-rate office in McAllen. They will also be in the Fiesta de Hidalgo parade that takes place Saturday.
“This is a special day because the clydesdales are hard to get here to our area,” said Juan Gonzalez, L&F Distributors gen-eral manager.
He said two years had passed since the clydesdales had been in the Valley.
