Online Beer Delivery: Fast online liquor delivery service launched in Hamilton
Alcohol can now be delivered to a Hamilton doorstep in an hour with a few mouse clicks.
Divneet Bindra came up with the idea for Brewbound, his online alcohol delivery service, while working at his family-owned liquor store.
Like clothes, groceries and late-night pizza cravings, the 20 year old thought there just might be a demand.
He noticed most liquor delivery services in New Zealand took a couple of days and he wanted to push the on-demand boundaries.
“I noticed lots of different people stopping in after work for a six-pack or a bottle of wine. We deliver dinner, so there’s no reason why drinks can’t deliver liquor, either.”
The website provides the platform and Brews Te Rapa supplies the alcohol.
While the on-demand convenience seems like a natural progression for most, Waikato University psychology senior lecturer Neville Robertson said it does come with risks.
“Let’s not forget that alcohol is an addictive drug. And certainly, while many or even most people use it responsibly, there is, undoubtedly, considerable potential for harm here.”
Roberston said as we become more connected to the web, it has become a convenient way of buying things.
And as people live busy lives, the idea of having things delivered is attractive, too.”
Since Brewbound launched four months ago, the company has had over 250 sales.
Bindra said customers range from young professionals to stay-at-home parents to couples in their 40s.
But Robertson hopes the company understands the moral obligations.
“They have a responsibility to make sure the people they are selling to are okay, in a way that bartenders cannot serve people intoxicated or underage.”
